  • 3 large sweet onions (thinly sliced (e.g., Vidalia, Walla Walla))
  • 0.5 cup butter (melted)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 0.5 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 0.5 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Arrange thinly sliced onions in a single layer in a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together melted butter, mozzarella, Parmesan, cheddar cheeses, garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, and salt until combined.
  4. Pour the cheese mixture evenly over the onions.
  5. Tent the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  6. Remove foil and bake for another 10-15 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  7. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a fancier flavor, swap cheddar for Gouda or Gruyere. Fresh chives or parsley can be added as a garnish. A pinch of cayenne pepper can be added for spice. Panko breadcrumbs can be sprinkled on top during the last 10-15 minutes of baking for extra crunch.
