Ingredients

Scale

Main ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh cranberries (Look for plump, firm cranberries.)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (Split into two ½ cup portions.)
  • 0.5 cup water (This helps create our simple syrup.)

Instructions

  1. Combine ½ cup of granulated sugar with ½ cup of water in a small saucepan.
  2. Place over medium heat and stir gently until all sugar has dissolved, creating a clear syrup.
  3. Once sugar is dissolved, bring the syrup to a gentle boil for 1 minute.
  4. Remove pan from heat and let the syrup cool for about 10-15 minutes.
  5. Gently add fresh cranberries to the slightly cooled syrup and stir to ensure an even coat.
  6. Let cranberries sit in the syrup for about 5 minutes.
  7. Using a slotted spoon, lift cranberries out of the syrup, allowing extra liquid to drip back into the pan.
  8. Place the remaining ½ cup of granulated sugar in a shallow bowl.
  9. Roll the syrup-coated cranberries in the sugar until completely covered and sparkly.
  10. Spread sugared cranberries on a wire rack or parchment paper and let them dry completely (1-2 hours).

Notes

Can be made a day or two in advance. They get firmer as they sit. Best enjoyed within 1-2 days for optimal crunch.
